USTC was established by Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) in Beijing in September, 1958, which was hailed as "a major event in the history of Chinese science and education". In the early 1970s, the University was moved to Hefei, the capital city of Anhui province.

InternationalCooperation

USTC has been actively expanding international cooperation, fostering strategic partnership with world class universities, and integrating into the mainstream of international higher education.


USTC is a member of various well-known university clubs, including the Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APRU), the Association of East Asian Research Universities (AEARU), the C9 League. It has also established collaboration with many prominent universities world wide.


Currently, USTC is accelerating the progress of internationalization. In 2010, the university signed 16 institutional agreements with international partners, invited more than 500 foreign experts, and launched 26 undergraduate overseas exchange programs.
