Shanghai University of Electric Power (SUEP) is one of the most prestigious state-owned institutions of higher education in Shanghai. Founded in 1951, SUEP has developed into a comprehensive university with rich diversity of disciplines. The university offers programs in engineering, science, liberal arts, management and economy. The faculty totals over 1000, of them more than 200 are professors and associate professors. Besides, there are dozens of domestic and foreign well-known experts and scholars as honorary, part-time or visiting professors at SUEP. The university is composed of 6 colleges and 2 departments, 35 laboratories and 12 research centers. There are nearly 850,000 books and over 1,000,000 e-books under circulation in the library. Its present enrollment of full-time undergraduates and postgraduates amounts to over 10,000.
In recent years, SUEP has quickened its steps in international exchange and cooperation. It has established partner relations with colleges and universities in Australia, Britain, Canada, France, Japan, Korea, the United States, Russia, etc. The university jointly educates students with universities in Britain and Russia, and receives overseas students from France and Russia.

Non-degree programs
1.Long-term Language Courses
※ Candidates
Any overseas person who wishes to learn Chinese language.
※ Courses & Duration
Course: Basic-level Chinese, Intermediate Chinese, Advanced Chinese, Chinese listening, Chinese speaking, Newspaper reading, Writing, News listening, Training Course for HSK Test.
Duration: 1 year (from September to June)
*Application is expected no later than the end of July.
※ Fees：
Registration Fee：400RMB
Tuition：16,000 RMB/Year
2.Short-term Courses of Chinese Language and Culture
※ Candidates
Any oversea person who wishes to learn Chinese language and experiences Chinese culture.
※ Courses & Duration
Course: Basic-level Chinese, Chinese reading, Chinese listening, China Outline, and various traditional culture courses, such as calligraphy, Chinese painting, Chinese cuisine, Marshal arts, Taiji, Chinese Gardening.
* Courses can be adjusted according to applicants’ demands.
Duration: 3 months. (The course is offered twice a year, beginning in March and September.)
※ Fees
Registration Fee：400RMB
Tuition：600 RMB/week
How to apply
Download application form from the website http://gjjlxy.web.shiep.edu.cn/, and fill in. Sent / E-mail the forms to the International Students Office of College of International Exchange.For the fall semester, the form is expected no later than May 30th, and for the spring semester, November 30th. Application will be replied within 15 days once being received by the office.
Bachelor Degree
1．Applicant Requirements:
Applicants are expected to
1）be between 18 and 40 years of age, healthy and stick to laws and regulations;
2）have senior high school graduation certificate;
3）have HSK certificate;
Level 3 for science and engineering programs; Level 4 for economy and management programs; Level 6 for liberal arts programs. Those whose HSK competence does not satisfy the requirement can apply for the Chinese Language Training course offered by SUEP. They can start the undergraduate program once they have reached the required HSK level.
2. When-to-start & When-to-apply
Applications are accepted from March 1st to June 10th each year. Degree programs start around September 10th each year.
3. What-to-prepare for Application
1) Filled-in “Application Forms for International Students” issued by SUEP;
2) Copied senior high school graduation certificate;
3) HSK certificate;
4) Two recommendation letters from two former teachers;
5) a piece of copied passport;
6) filled-in medical-check form;
7）Application fee of RMB 400 yuan (cash or check);
8) Two photos which are the same size as the one required by passport.
* All the above required should be written in Chinese or English.
* Application deadlines: June 10th. Applicants will get reply within 15 days once the application is received by the college office.
4. Application Procedures
Step 1: Ask for the “Application Form for International Students” from the International Students office of the College of International Exchange. Or download it from the website of the College of International Exchange;
Step 2: Send the application form and the above-listed materials to the College of International Exchange by post, courier, or fax.（The address and fax number is on the back cover）
Step 3: Receive “Admission Letter” and “Student’s Handbook” once the application is accepted.
* If your application is beyond the deadline, please contact us in advance so that proper arrangements can be made to ensure your successful entry to our university on the agreed date.
5．Tuition: RMB 20,000 Yuan/year

The International Students apartment is on Nanhui Campus, where fully-equipped living facilities are provided, such as canteens, supermarkets, banks, post offices, hospitals, public sports centres, entertainment centres. You can find a healthy and wonderful environment which is convenient and peaceful. The apartment, With a special person in charge of 24-hours management, the well-equipped apartment remain tidy and clean all the time, make it possible for a convenient and happy life. The housing facilities include public shower rooms, air-conditioners, a TV room, a reading room, refrigerator, kitchen facilities, telephones, etc.
Fees: double rooms, RMB 140-200 Yuan/person/week
| Scholarship for International Student |

Shanghai University of Electric Power is authorized to provide international students with Shanghai Municipal Government Scholarship, Class B scholarship and Class C scholarship. Class B scholarship is to assist the study of international students applying for postgraduate and undergraduate degree courses, covering tuition and part of text books. Class C scholarship is to assist the study of international students, who have been studying at SUEP for quite a long time. The winner can get a fixed sum of money once a semester or a year. In 2008，the scholarship quota for Class B is 10, for Class C is 20.
Additionally, the university provides various kinds of scholarship to excellent overseas students studying at SUEP who have not enjoyed the government scholarship.

1. Food Service and Transportation
Reasonably-priced canteens and bars are available on Nanhui campus. Moderate daily cost for food is about RMB 20 yuan. Also you can cook in the kitchen of the department by yourself.
School Shuttle buses are available on the university campus which take you to the Zhangjiang Metro Subway Station. By the metro one can go directly to the center of Shanghai.

It’s amazing to have the opportunity to study in this great nation, especially at this marvelous institution SUEP.
I can not ignore the warm welcome and friendly people who are always around me. I must say they are terrific, ever smiling and willing to share. Moreover, the learning environment is indeed conducive for education and development. To me as an international student, it promotes academic excellence at par with excepted high international students. Consequently, cultural and academic exchange for mutual benefit between different countries—tome, it’s a great honor.
“Be not afraid of the heaven above, be not afraid of the earth, but be afraid when a foreigner tries to speak Chinese.” This has been my case at SUEP. It’s difficult to learn a new language especially Chinese. However, I am glad to say, at SUEP a difficulty has been made a challenge, a challenge to goal; a goal that can be achieved. As a lonely horse, one can not achieve goals to the full measure.

My name is Elyster and my Chinese name is Ai Meili. I come from Zimbabwe, Africa. I have been studying at Shanghai University of Electric Power for 7 months only, but this place feels like home already. The staff and the students of this university are very welcoming and friendly.

SUEP students are hard working and very persistent in everything they do, they always strive for excellence and success. Not only are they persistent academically, but also in sports and other school activities.
This has been greatly motivated me, SUEP students have taught me to be confident and persistent until I get to my victory. Because of this, I have realized that all things are attainable. Learning at Shanghai University of Electric Power has given me a platform to excel, not only academically but also socially.

Coming to China was a great opportunity; learning at Shanghai University of Electric Power is even a greater chance and being accepted into its society was the greater joy. China is beautiful and so is SUEP. Upon arrival I loved SUEP but now I feel loved. In the past 7 months, I have learned a lot, I have discovered that everything is truly beautiful in its own way. SUEP is a beautiful place and has a rare gem, the University of Everything.
When you look around you see a small river, trees, rockeries but beyond that lies a loving society, professional teachings, an excellent education system. I have been challenged in more than one way. The students are diligent, zealous, well-behaved, courteous friendly and accommodating. Apart from learning Chinese, I am also learning how to love and appreciate nature.
