A brief introduction to Weihai

Weihai lays in the eastern of Shandong peninsula. Within the hug of the Yellow Sea in three sides from north, east and south, it faces the Liaodong peninsula in the north, Korea and some Japanese isles in east and southeast. It borders with Yantai in the west. All these contribute to make Weihai a tourist city with scenic beach and sound environment. The maximum horizontal distance from the east to the west is about 135 kilometers, and 81 kilometersfrom the south to the north. The total area is 5436 square kilometers, with a coastline of 985.9 kilometers, of which the urban area occupies 731 square kilometers. Rongcheng, Wendeng and Rushan are the three cities governed by Weihai. Moreover, it has four districts, that are, Huancui district, High-tech district, Industrial district and economic development district. Surrounded by the sea, Weihai enjoys beautiful sceneries, fresh air and a pleasant weather. The greening and beautifying level of Weihai rank high among chinese cities. Weihai is the first national health city and also the first national environmental protection model city and tourist city in China. Furthermore, it is the national garden city, national civilized city. The UN has granted the best model of “improving the living environment” to Weihai. Chairman Jiang Zemin generalizes the characteristics of the city like this, “With red roofs under blue sky, it takes on a spirit of forging ahead in unity to a prosperous expectation.”

With numerous habours and isles along the coastline, the Liugong Island which ranks among the national AAAA-class tourist resort, Chengshantou, which is called the oriental Cape of Good Hope, Weihai has a rich resource of tourism. In Huancui district, there are Park Wan Tsui House, Weihai Park, international beach, provincial tourism resort such as the Swan Lake, Isle Beach, Silver Beach, Tsui. Fahua Temple, which witnesses the friendship of China, Japan and the South Korea, Shengjing Mount, where originates the Quanzhen Daoism, Shengshui Temple, Tiecha Mount, spectacle of Rushan habour and dozens of high-quality hot spring, also lay in the city.
