    China Women's University (CWU) is the only state-financed institute of higher learning exclusively for women in China. It is affiliated with the All-China Women's Federation and is under the academic administration of the Ministry of Education. Madam Chen Muhua, former Vice-Chairperson of the National People's Congress and Chairperson of the All-China Women's Federation is the honorary president of China Women's University.

    Its predecessor was New China Women's Vocational School founded in 1949 by revolutionary veterans like Madam Soong Ching Ling, He Xiangning, Cai Chang, Deng Yinchao, Kang Keqin, and others. It was renamed as the Women's Cadres'School of the All-China Women's Federation in 1950.

    With the approval of the State Education Commission (presently Ministry of Education) in 1984, it was reestablished as the first women adult college of higher learning in China, then renamed as the Women Administrators College for All-China Women's Federation.

    In 1987 it was renamed as the China College of Women Administrators, successfully transforming from a short-term training institute for women administrators to an independently operating college offering adult education.

    In 1995, the university was renamed China Women's University and started to recruit the students who have just graduated from the high school and successfully passed the national college entrance examination.

    In 2002, with the approval of Ministry of Education, the University was upgraded and transferred into a general university qualified to offer its graduates bachelor degrees.

    In 2005, the University successfully passed the accreditation sponsored by the State Ministry of Education in academic level.

   Located to the east of the Asian Games Village in Beijing. The grand, garden-like campus of CWU covers an area of 10 hectares, with a construction space of 70,000 square meters. With the various studying and living facilities, CWU provides its students with a quiet and comfortable environment for study and daily life. The library of CWU has a collection of 192,000 volumes, also with all sorts of Chinese and foreign periodicals, magazines, textbooks and reference materials.

    For many years CWU has devoted itself to educating talented youth from all over China helping them become professionals with multiple abilities to meet the needs of the new 21st century. CWU has also centered its attention on the teaching quality and the self-improvement of the university. Now the curriculums in this university cover a wide range of courses for bachelor degrees and also for foreign students. The university also offers two-three year undergraduate programs, hi-tech vocational training and adult education courses. With the dedicated efforts of the faculty, CWU has done its utmost to develop itself into an institution providing courses characterized by a multi-level, multi-discipline education.

    At present, there are 10 departments, 2 section and 2 colleges: the departments including, Department of Women's Studies, Department of Economic Management, Department of Social Work, Department of Law, Department of Pre-school Education, Department of Human Resources Management, Department of Arts, Department of Foreign Language, Department of Computer Science, and Department of Finance. The section and colleges are Public Education Section; Physical Education section; College of Continuing Education and China Korea College. The university has a branch college in Jinan, the capital city of Shandong Province in the east of China.

    CWU offers 13 different specialties: Art of Broadcasting and Hosting, Tourism Management, Women's Studies, Social Work, Pre-school Education Management, Law, Human Resources Management, Accounting, Finance, English, Art Design, computing science, and Financial Management.

    Since its establishment CWU has made conscientious efforts to enhance the development of the faculty, now boasting an array of qualified teachers including many distinguished scholars as well as some promising up-and-coming faculty.

    At present there are about 5000 undergraduate and foreign students in CWU. For several decades CWU has educated a lot of students with ability, who are playing important roles in all walks of life of China.

    CWU attaches considerable importance to its scientific research, which has resulted in some notable achievements. The Journal of China Women's University is a publicly published and focuses on women issues.

    As a window of the All- China Women's Federation to the outside world and a women's institute for higher learning, CWU attaches great importance to academic exchanges and friendly cooperation with universities and scientific research institutions in other regions and countries.
