In the First Intellectual Property Rights Education Competition held by Guangzhou Education Bureau, Guangzhou Intellectural Property Protection Bureau and Guangzhou Technology and Information Bureau, School of Mechanics and Electronics Engineering submitted 6 works for the Competion, which won two First Prizes and Three Second Prizes. A professor from the School also won the Excellent Supervisor Award and Excellent Organization Award.

Guangzhou Intellectual Property Rights Education Competition aims at improving students' knowledge in Science and their awareness of IPR protection, encouraging them to be engaged in scientific innovation activities and enhance their ability to innovate, as a part of the strategty to promote new urbanization in Guangzhou and nurture talents of scientific innovation. A new education model in Mechanics Design and CDIO in Automation contributed to GU's achievement in the competition.
