If you are interested in learning the most commonly spoken language in the world, Mandarin Chinese, XJTLU offers non-degree courses for beginner, intermediate, advanced and business learners.
 
The delivery of the Chinese course is interactive and "hands-on" with a focus on stimulating activities so that you experience the language as you would in real life situations. The modules emphasize listening, speaking, reading and writing, enabling students to learn Chinese language and culture in an all-round way.
 
Highlights
Small class teaching.  Chinese classes will consist of no more than 10 students, allowing for more active participation and attention to individual student needs.
Highly-qualified teaching staff.  Our Chinese language tutors are employed full-time and are fully certified to teach Mandarin Chinese.
Option for credit transfer to your home university.  Chinese Languages Studies students have the option to transfer Mandarin Chinese credits to their home degree programme (subject to the approval of their home university).
Dedicated Chinese language partner.  Each student is partnered with a local Chinese student, who is trained to provide extra support to your Chinese language learning, for at least four hours per week.
Cultural learning and field trips.  Students will take part in various cultural learning and field trips, to further enhance their oral and aural Chinese proficiency.

CLT011 Beginner Chinese This module is run for people who have no knowledge of Mandarin Chinese • be familiar with 1,200 Chinese words
• be able to recognize and write 300 Chinese characters.
• be capable of communicating in Chinese and expressing ideas on topics such as the weather and their hobbies, holidays and hometown.
• be able to write a 60 to 80 word essay in Chinese characters.
• meet the New HSK Level 2

CLT012 Intermediate Chinese  Beginner Chinese (CLT011) or equivalent • know around 2,000 basic and intermediate Chinese words.
• be able to recognize and write 1,200 Chinese characters.
• be capable of discussing contemporary cultural and social issues in Chinese.
• be able to write a 200-word essay in Chinese characters.
• meet the New HSK Level 4.

CLT013 Advanced Chinese  Intermediate Chinese (CLT012) or equivalent • know around 3,000 basic and advanced Chinese words.
• be able to recognise and write 2,000 Chinese characters.
• be capatble of discussing contemporary cultural and social issues in Chinese.
• be able to write a 300-word essay in Chinese characters.
• meet the New HSK Level 5

CLT014 Business Chinese Advanced Chinese (CLT013) or equivalent  • hold conversations on selected business topics with correct structure and vocabulary and in cultuarally appropriate manner.
• read business-related materials from authentic publications.
• write simple and yet effective business correspondence in proper styles and formats.
• have deleveloped a better understanding of doing businss in China and aspects of Chinese society and culture.
• use common Chinese computer applications for daily business purposes.

Tuition Fees
RMB14,000 (approx. USD2,250) per semester (for a 10-credit Mandarin Chinese module).
