The Chinese agricultural calendar

On March 22nd, 2012 the Confucius Institute at the University of Vienna started their lecture series on "The Chinese agricultural calendar" in which Prof. Gerd Kaminski explain the most important Chinese festivals.

Prof. Kaminski, director of the Austrian-Chinese Association and the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute fr China and Southeast Asia Research in Vienna, used Power Point presentation to describe in his first lecture about "Stove god and the Lunar New Year" the mythological association about the Stove god and the meanings of New Year paintings, paper cuts and calligraphy, which are used between the "Chinese New Year's Eve" and the Lantern Festival in China. With his detailed knowledge of the individual motifs, he explained the meanings and so the Chinese customs to the numerous guests.

After the lecture, Prof. Kaminski explained the audience the pictures, which were exhibited at the Confucius Institute. The guests get a lot of background knowledge.
