Enchanting sounds and melodies of Chinese instruments fascinated the audience on the evening of October 11th at the Franz-Liszt hall. The Confucius Institute at the University of Vienna cordially invited friends of the Chinese culture to the concert of the China Conservatory of Music which are on tour through Europe with the "Beijing Traditional Music Festival". With traditional Chinese instruments such as Guzheng, Qin, Xiao, Erhu, Jinghu and Yangqin the audience were accompanied into a new world.

The "Beijing Traditional Music Festival"was first held by the China Conservatory of Music in 2009 and has served as a worldwide platform for the presentation of traditional Chinese music. The China Conservatory of Music is an important institution for the study and research of Chinese traditional music, composition, music theory and techniques.

Prof. Trappl, Director of the Confucius Institute, welcomed the numerous guests and after a few introductory words, he handed the moderation of the concert over to Prof. Xie from the China Conservatory of Music. Prof. Xie made great effort to introduce the traditional Chinese instruments to the audience. With brief explanations and solos of the musicians it was possible to distinguish the unique sounds of the instruments.

The ensemble, consisted of dean and professors of the Conservatory, presented traditional music works from all over China. A special highlight was the surprising performance of "Die Fledermaus"by Johann Strauss II which brought great joy to the audience.

For the final of a successful concert the audience was invited to questions to the musicians.
