Children Singing Performance in the Chinese program at Spartanburg Charter School, Confucius Institute at Presbyterian College2011-10-26 16:08:00 From: http://english.hanban.org/
At 6:30pm, the president of the Board of SCS, Dr. Haas called the meeting to order and the principal, Dr. von Rohr , introduced the new Chinese language teachers to all school directors, staff and parents at the meeting. At 6:40pm, instructed by the Chinese teacher, Yongmei Hu, students in grades K-3 began their musical performance in Mandarin. The first song ,"Looking For A New Friend," a widespread children song in China was sung by K-1 students , ages 5 to 6, showing off their clear and happy voices. The second song was a solo performance of "Numbers" by "dimpled princess" Kella Hayes, whose beautiful voice captivated the audience. Finally, students in grades 2-3, ages 7 to 8 performed "Good Kids. The song lyrics, translated into English, include: "It is good to show respect to the elders and we are good kids." The children enjoyed singing, not only to hear the Chinese language, but to affirm its wise message about Chinese virtue -- respect the old and love the young. The songs were heart felt and moving and our young singers earned a standing ovation from the audience. The Chinese song performance makes the children in SCS more interested in learning Chinese language and culture and it also places a profound and positive impact on Chinese learning program in local areas as well.
