The 7th Khartoum international book exhibition was held in Khartoum International Fair from October 3th to 15th 2011. The Vice President of the Republic of Sudan, ministers from Ministry of Culture, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Information, etc. attended the opening ceremony. Confucius Institute at University of Khartoum was invited to attend the exhibition by the Ministry of Culture in Sudan. The Culture Office of Chinese Embassy in Sudan provided great support. During this book show, Confucius Institute at University of Khartoum enjoyed high popularity.
More than 50 Presses from different countries attended this exhibition. Confucius Institute at University of Khartoum exhibited Chinese textbooks for college students, textbooks for basic levels, dictionaries, textbooks in Chinese and Arabic, Chinese and English audio-visual products, etc, which were donated by Confucius Institute Headquarters. Over 50,000 readers from Sudan, Egypt, Iraq, Turkey, Jordan, etc. visited Chinese stand. Many people bought Chinese books with great enthusiasm and wanted to get more information, register CI courses, cooperate with Chinese companies, etc. Nearly 10 media reported Confucius Institute exhibition stand during these two weeks. Meanwhile, Confucius Institute gifted some books to Sudan Ministry of Culture and National Library. Many book companies and press would like to make cooperation's with Chinese book companies. The Ministry of Culture in Sudan spoke highly of the cooperation of Confucius Institute at University of Khartoum in this book show. The Confucius Institute teachers, volunteer Chinese teachers, teachers in Chinese department actively participated in the job of guiding and interpreting. They introduced traditional Chinese culture, calligraphy, kongfu, Chinese opera and so on.
It is the first time that Sudanese people could buy Chinese books in this exhibition. All the books have two languages--Chinese and Arabic. For one thing, it improves their interest of learning Chinese. For another, they get better understanding of China and Chinese language. A craze of learning Chinese language has been aroused by the courses, books and culture activities in Confucius Institute at University of Khartoum.
