Free access makes cultural trips more convenient2011-9-19 14:43:00 From: cctv
Earlier this year, a new free admission policy was being put into practice at most of China's libraries and museums. As more and more people benefit from the new rule, local governments are making efforts to make the cultural trips more convenient and colorful.
At Pu Cao village of Long Quan Yi district of Chengdu, capital city of Sichuan Province, farmers can get practical knowledge about planting from the free libraries. Xu Yuanjin, who plants grapes to make a living, has found the information at the libraries quite helpful. He earned an extra 20-thousand yuan last year by learning new techniques from the books. The library in Pu Cao village opened in 2007. And a "flowing" service became accessible in 2009, with readers going into any of the 140 libraries of the Long Quan Yi district, to read, borrow and return books, free of charge. Villager Xu Yuanjin said, "With this card in hand, we can visit any library in the whole district. It's very convenient for us." Shaanxi's History Museum in the city of Xi'an is one of the first batch of museums nationwide to offer free admission. Tour guide Zhang Min is attracting the audience with not only an introduction of the exhibits, but with fascinating background stories. She says she's seen a surge of visitors since the free admission policy was enacted. The number has risen from 4000 people to 6000 people per day. And the crowds are not only tourists and experts, but also many residents and students. A library visitor said, "I'm a native of Xi'an. After its free to come, I bring friends or relatives here every several months." Up to now, 1,743 museums in China have offered a free admission to visitors. The policy has drawn more and more people to visit museums and experience the charm of history, culture and art. Total:1 Page: 1
