Officials from a Chinese university are visiting Wright State University this week seeking to expand an existing partnership.
The Dalian Jiaotong University --Information Engineering Institute are meeting with top WSU officials about growing their partnership, which started in 2002 with the College of Engineering and Computer Science, and expanded to the College of Liberal Arts LEAP (Intensive English) Program last year and the Raj Soin College of Business this year.
About 45 Dalian students are enrolled this quarter at Wright State, while seven Wright State students are studying at the Dalian campus in China, about 300 miles northeast of Beijing. Another group of Wright State students will study at Dalian this winter, as part of a growing Chinese language program at Wright State.
Visiting Dalian officials also will take campus tours and visit with deans, housing, disability services and international education officials. A group of 11 Dalian students who will be attending Wright State in fall 2011 also will be meeting with Wright State representatives.
Attendees from Dalian include: benefactor Zhi Gao; Chairman of the Board of Directors Dexin Yang; Vice Presidents Yixian Liu, Yi Zhou and Laijin Jiang and professors Daliang Zheng and Hongyan Wang.
"This partnership is one of Wright State University's strongest in terms of the number of student and faculty participants, and we hope to further strengthen our collaboration with Dalian through this visit," said Stephen Foster, Wright State University's associate vice president for international affairs. "We are enhancing the internationalization of our classrooms through the growth of Chinese students on our campus and increasing opportunities for Wright State students to study and live in China."
