SEOUL, May 20 (Xinhua) -- UNESCO Director-General Irina Georgieva Bokova will visit South Korea next week to attend the 2nd World Conference on Arts Education to be held from May 25 to 28, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade said Thursday.
Bokova will arrive in Seoul on May 22 for a four-day trip during which she will also meet with officials from the ministries of foreign affairs, education, and culture, as well as the G20 organizing committee to discuss ways to strengthen cooperation between UNESCO and South Korea, the ministry said. The World Conference on Arts Education is an event arranged by UNESCO where scholars and sociologists from more than 190 countries gather to discuss arts education and cultural diversity, and the first meeting was held in Lisbon four years ago. Bokova, a native of Bulgaria, has served as minister and deputy minister of foreign affairs and Ambassador of Bulgaria to France before being elected as the first female Director-General of UNESCO in 2009.
