College in Australia may shut down due to violation of education standards2010-5-11 17:18:00 From: xinhua
CANBERRA, May 11 (Xinhua) -- A South Australian college for foreign students could be shut down after breaching education standards, Australian Associated Press (AAP) reported on Tuesday.
Adelaide Pacific International College allegedly has failed to meet 12 of 14 training standards, Further Education Minister Jack Snelling told reporters. The breaches were uncovered in an audit conducted by the Department of Further Education, Employment, Science and Technology in cooperation with the commonwealth government and the college, Snelling told AAP. "The department served notice to the college last Friday of its intention to cancel their registration as a Registered Training Provider and has given the College's chief executive 28 days to respond," Snelling said. The state and commonwealth governments were concerned for the welfare of the 450 foreign students who were mainly of Indian origin, Snelling said. If the college has shut down, the students will be given the opportunity to study in other Adelaide colleges if the wish to stay. No decision about the suspension or cancellation of their registration had been made, and will not be taken, until the colleges management had been given the opportunity to respond to the audit's findings, Snelling said. Adelaide is the capital and most populous city of the Australian state of South Australia. Total:1 Page: 1
