China Association for Quality Promotion (CAQP) released a survey report March 2, 2010 saying that after consumer rights have been infringed, one quarter of Chinese college students not to make any form of complaint.

The survey report took 1,034 valid questionnaires as the primary source of data.

The survey found that students' consumer rights have been violated mainly in the following forms: product quality defects (12.79 percent), the price is higher than the normal market price (26.95 percent), false advertising (26.5 percent), inadequate after-sales service (36.94 percent), and counterfeit famous brand products (8.79 percent).

After students' consumer rights have been infringed, their rights protection response is not active. When they fail to solve the problem after consultation with the producer, 38.12 percent choose to make complaints to consumer rights protection agencies and 35.52 percent choose to get help through the media, with one quarter of students making no response in at all.

Analysis suggests subjective factors such as a feeling that complaining is troublesome affecting the students' rights protection accounts for as high as 71.6 percent, while nearly 30 percent worried that the other side may be unreasonable and are afraid of difficulties in the complaint process.

The survey also points out objective factors that affect students' rights protection are mainly financial costs, time and energy, as well as one-third of students did not know what departments to resort to. This situation has much to do with the current efficiency, costs and social influence of consumer rights protection mechanisms.
