CZU History

Founded early in 1978, Changzhou University (CZU), originally named Wuxi Branch Institute, and then Changzhou Branch Institute of Nanjing Institute of Chemical Technology, was established as a provincial full-time university at the beginning of China’s reform and opening-up. In 1981, authorized and granted by State Council, it was officially entitled as Jiangsu Institute of Chemical Technology. Following the cooperative school-running mechanism implemented by Jiangsu Provincial Government and China Petrochemical Corporation in 1984.

Research

The university has won three second prizes for National Science and Technology Progress, and one second prize for National Technological Invention, both of which are top national science awards in China. By the end of 2012, CCZU has undertaken over 42 national science foundation projects and won over 60 provincial science awards.

Overview

Changzhou University (CCZU) now boasts a student body of about 20,000, including over 1500 post graduates. It has a strong faculty engaging in teaching and scientific research. Among the 1000 full-time teachers, there are 160 professors and 340 associate professors, over 80% have masters or PhD degrees.

CZU International Cooperation and Exchange

CZU attaches great importance to international exchange and cooperation, and obtains the projects of “national-level innovative talent training experimental plot” and “provincial-level innovative talent training base”. The university takes an active part in setting up cooperative international programs with other countries. To date, Changzhou University has six joint educational programs approved by the Chinese Ministry of Education. They are dual-bachelor programs on Computer Science and Technology, Business Management, Information Management and System and Chemical Engineering with St. Francis Xavier University in Canada, and dual-bachelor programs on Pharmaceutical Engineering and Electronic Engineering with National University of Ireland, Maynooth. Since 2005, these six joint educational programs have cultivated more than 100 graduates, many of whom further read master or doctor degrees at world famous universities. Besides, Changzhou University has signed cooperative research and exchange agreements with over 20 institutions in 10 countries including the United States, Britain, Canada, Japan, Russia, Germany, Australia and Finland. It carries out productive cooperation in the field of teacher exchange, student exchange, research projects and joint teaching, etc., which gives a pushing effect on the improvement of teaching quality, academic construction and scientific research. In addition, Changzhou University recruits more than 100 long-term and short-term overseas students annually. The university provides not only Chinese language courses but also courses on Chinese Culture, trades and management. Changzhou University will persist in its endeavor in internationalized education strategy according to 2011-2015 Plan, to build up reputation and accelerate development.
