Comprehensive
Chinese(10)

Through class-based speaking practice and coaching, absolute beginners will acquire mandarin basic pronunciation and Chinese pinyin, understand Chinese word sequence, structure, measure words and other basic grammatical structures. Listening, speaking, reading and writing aspects of comprehensive Chinese should reach elementary Chinese level.

Listening(4)

For the purpose of practicing and meeting imperative communication needs, the course involves practicing dialogues such as self-introduction, shopping and everyday life themes. Emphasis is put on teaching pronunciation. Through intensive training. students will acquire the ability to understand the main intention of the speaker.

Speaking (4)

The main focus is on developing students’ oral communication skills and master basic communication wordings, being able to understand and use simple Chinese words, expressions and sentences, meeting specific communication needs in everyday life, studies and social intercourse, and using those skills in real life situations in modern China. 。

Fundamentals of
Chinese characters (2)

Introduction to fundamentals of Chinese characters. Mastering Chinese characters structure patterns from their shape, sound and meaning, thus helping students to learn 800 basic Chinese characters.

Chinese culture(2)

The main purpose is to introduce Chinese culture knowledge, including a brief introduction to China’s history, manners and customs, food culture and many other aspects. 

Elementary Level

Teaching objectives
Being able to communicate directly and simply familiar everyday life topics in Chinese, attain first-rate Chinese elementary level, and pass HSK level 3.

Minimum requirements
Possess rudiments of listening and speaking skills, grasp basic Chinese grammatical structures, and simple sentence structures. Possess a productive vocabulary of 0-1000 words, and a receptive vocabulary of 0-500 words; average listening, speaking, reading and writing skills.

Through the language skill training of listening, speaking, reading and writing at intermediate stage, level 4, students will command basic pronunciation and pinyin of Standard Chinese, learn most frequently used characters and words, complete learning elementary level grammar units. Possess elementary skills in Chinese communication, be able to apply the language knowledge and skills learnt to solve basic problems in everyday life

Listening(4)

The current stage of listening skills training places particular emphasis on simple short conversations. To be able to accurately hear Chinese sound, rhyme, and tone, understanding the teacher’s relatively slow lecturing in Chinese; possess elementary character recognition skills, be able to understand everyday life simple conversations in situations like meeting people, self-introduction, and shopping; understand the basic contents of someone’s description of something, and grasp the main meaning.

Speaking (4)

Speaking training mainly involves questions-answers style of conversations. To be able to voice out relatively accurate single words’ sound. The intonation of sentences may obviously receive influence from the mothertongue, but the meaning expressed should be coherent and listeners should basically understand. Being able to have basic oral communication in everyday life situations such as meeting people, self-introduction, express greetings, ask questions and shopping, being able to use the simple vocabulary acquired to express one’s meaning or to describe the basic contents of something, have less than 30% of sentence mistakes.

Reading(4)

RReading essays of less than 200 words, and start practicing connecting sentences into short compositions. Be able to read out relatively accurate Chinese words according to its pinyin. With the help of a dictionary, be able to read articles with more than 80% of learnt vocabulary; without the use of a dictionary, to be able to grasp the main message of articles with more than 90% of familiar vocabulary.

Chinese culture

Introducing Chinese culture as main objective, including Chinese art history, spirituality and arts.

Intermediate level

Teaching objectives
Capable of applying Chinese langauage in accomplishing rudimentary social intercourse tasks in everyday life, studies, work, etc.

Minimum requirements
Candidates should have already grasped basics of Chinese pronunciation; rudiments of Chinese grammatical structure; possess a receptive vocabulary of 1000-3000 words, and a productive vocabulary of 1000-2000 words; already have elementary skills in listening, speaking, reading, writing and communicating in everyday life.

Through the language skill training at intermediate stage, level 4, students will command about 2850 intermediate level words, about 80 intermediate level grammar units, possess a general ability to listen, speak, read, write and translate, meeting the requirements in everyday life, studies, and to a certain extent at work, have an elementary.

Listening(4)

Understanding standard Mandarin or slightly accented Mandarin spoken at average pace (180-220 words/minute), related to conversations in everyday life and social activities, general negotiations and business talks, university foundation course lessons, familliar newscasts, etc.

Speaking(4)

Possess elementary ability of expression, have essentially correct intonations, regular speaking pace, relatively clear, correct and appropriate presentation. Be able to expand and discuss about general topics, conduct ordinary negotiations and business discussions.

Reading(4)

Improve reading skills and pace. Understand read materials’main facts and information, skip obstacles, catch details, and be able to derive and make deductions based on the read materials. Possess basic skills for listening and reading news, general articles, writing topic-based essays. Develop a dissertation, strengthen ability of expression.

Basics of writing(4)

Understanding how to use punctuation and writing styles, abbreviations, use of pronouns,ordinary general formats and commonly used expressions in practical writing. Learners should be able to use the characters, grammar and vocabulary to be acquired, to express in written form. Possess the essential ability to remember spoken dictation of less than 300 words, with a pace of 10 words/minute. Be able to compose general essays, specific business related work documents, regular practical writing, with basically correct layout, coherent text, clear and accurate expression.

China’s general situation

Introduction of important parts of Chinese culture – regime culture. Help foreign students to have a preliminary understanding of China’s characteristic governing style and culture. Comprehensive introduction focusing on various aspects of contemporary China: "China's natural and social conditions, and "Chinese politics."

Advanced level

Teaching objectives
Being able to use Chinese to discuss about topics in various fields, with the use of listening, speaking, writing and translating skills. Being able to communication fluently, using Chinese, with native speakers.

Teaching target
Suitable for general listening and speaking ability. Already mastered basic grammatical structure as well as general expressions of Chinese language. Reach HSK4. Mastered more than 2500 Chinese vocabulary as well as general Chinese grammar content of learners.

Being able to understand relatively complex speeches and dialogues in standard mandarin or slightly accented mandarin as well as regular speed broadcasts, news programs on television , at a speed rate of 200-240 words/min.

Conversation(4)

Includes special speaking patterns, possess the writing skills with Grade C grammar focusing on special vocabulary, and fundamental Chinese passage framework; including life, studies, work, social culture and other aspects of relatively complex communication units. On the language expression level, discourse training is stressed, accuracy and appropriateness are required, and putting further emphasis on studying relevant cultural knowledge and pragmatic knowledge.

Reading(4)

Be able to read Chinese periodicals, appreciate the writer’s attitude and feelings. Appreciate Chinese movie and television programs, be able to use Chinese to make well-rounded speeches.
