Introduction

Zhejiang Gongshang University (ZJGSU) is a public university located in Hangzhou, which is the capital city of Zhejiang Province and borders Shanghai in the east of China. The University has a student population of over 21,000 and offers forty-five bachelor degree programs, thirty-seven master degree programs and three doctor degree programs in the fields of economics, administration, science, engineering, law, literature and arts.

Zhejiang is the name of the province and "Gongshang" is the Chinese pronunciation of two Chinese words meaning "business and technology," signifying that Zhejiang Gongshang University is a public higher educational institution administrated by Zhejiang Province and focuses in the fields of business and technology.

The university had its first enrollment of international students in the late 1980s, and since then, more than 1000 international students coming from more than 40 countries all over the world have studied long and short-term Chinese Language and Culture Programs in ZJGSU.

Programs

ZJGSU offers following programs to international students:

(1) 45 bachelor degree programs
Zhejiang Gongshang University offers 45 bachelor degree programs, among which 6 programs are key bachelor degree programs in Zhejiang Province. They are Business Administration, International Economics and Trade, Finance, Statistics, Food Science and Engineering, Information Management and Information Systems. ZJGSU was awarded “Grade A” in the Teaching Evaluation of Bachelor Degree Programs conducted by Ministry of Education of China in 2007.

(2) 37 master degree programs
Zhejiang Gongshang University offers 37 master degree programs, among which 8 programs are key master degree programs in Zhejiang Province. They are Food Science and Engineering, Business Administration, Statistics, Industrial Economics, Management Science and Engineering, Finance, Quantitative Economics, Tourism Management.

(3) 3 Ph.D programs
Zhejiang Gongshang University offers 3 Ph.D programs, Food Science and Technology, Statistics and Business Administration. The Statistics Ph.D program of ZJGSU is the only statistics Ph.D program in high educational institutes in Zhejiang Provience.

(4) Long-term Chinese Language and Culture Program
There are Essential Chinese language and Culture Program, Intermediate Chinese language and Culture Program and Advanced Chinese language and Culture Program.
Students of Chinese Language and Culture program will be placed into different grades and classes on the basis of how long the student have learned the Chinese before taking the program.Each term usually lasts for 17 weeks with 20 class hours per week.

(5) Business Chinese Program
Business Chinese program is specially designed for foreign business-man with Intermediate Chinese or its equivalent as a foundation. It aims to enable the student to:1) have a good command of Chinese business vocabulary and writing;2) raise awareness of cross-culture interaction in business; 3) lay a good Chinese language foundation for studying for Master degree courses in economics and international Trade.4) learn about China’s current economic status、investment environment and foreign trade policies so as to enable learners to use the Chinese language in future career.

(6)Chinese language Promotion Program for degree students
Chinese language promotion program is specially designed for foreign students who want to study for degree courses in China’s universities and colleges. It aims to enable high school graduates、undergraduates、master degree graduates to reach the admission requirement for Chinese language
promptly for bachelor-degree、master-degree、Ph.D candidates respectively
so as to lay a good Chinese language foundation for studying for degree courses.

(7)Short-term Chinese Language and Culture Tours Program
This program is designed for student groups with more than 10 person sent by overseas educational institutions and travel agencies in our cooperative network. The course can be tailored to any level (e.g, beginners, intermediate, advanced, businessman).The length of the course can be from two to six weeks. The course includes: Pronunciation, Listening, Speaking, Conversation, Chinese Writing,Reading, Composition, Chinese culture, Taiji,Gong Fu, Traditional Chinese Painting, Chinese songs and Calligraphy. Tours are custom-designed for the City of Hangzhou, Shanghai, Suzhou, Wuxi, Nanjing, or Huang Shan (The Yellow Mountain).The charge depends on the amount of applicants,the courses and tours arrangement.

(8)Chinese Business Program
Chinese business program is designed for students majored in business or foreign business-man. Courses are delivered in English and lasts for two weeks to three months. It aims to enable students to be familiar with foreign economy and trade policy of China, economic and trade regulations, business environment and practices and Chinese enterprise culture, etc.

3>. Remittance receipt of the application fee (RMB 200 yuan)

2. Bachelor Degree Program
Application Deadline: September 1st,2007 to June 30st, 2008
Application Condition:
1>. Applicants must be above 18 years old and in good physical condition;
2>. Applicants should have high school diploma;
3>. Applicants should have an HSK (the Chinese proficiency test) test score of grade 3 or above;
Required Documents for application:
1>. Application form for admission to Zhejiang Gongshang University----Degree program.
2>. High school graduation certificate and course transcripts;
3>. HSK score: Level 4 for liberal arts; level 3 for other majors (Regarding the HSK, please visit http://www.hanban.edu.cn/en_hanban/index.php );
4>. A CV with a cover letter and personal statement;
5>. A bank statement or financial guarantee from your guarantor or your guardian; and
6>. A photocopy of passport and three passport photos
7>. Remittance receipt of the application fee (RMB 200 yuan)

3.Master and Ph.D Program
Application Deadline: September.1st, 2007 to June 30st, 2008
Application Condition:
1>. Applicants must be above 18 years old and in good physical condition;
2>. Applicants should have bachelor degree diploma;
3>.Programs conducted in Chinese: applicants should have an HSK (the Chinese proficiency test) test score of grade 3 or above;
Programs conducted in English: TOEFL score of 550 or IELTS score of 6.0 for non-native English speakers
Required Documents for application:
(1) completed application form;
(2) undergraduate transcripts for Master applicants, and undergraduate transcripts AND Master program transcripts for Ph.D. applicants;
(3) two letters of recommendation (if not employed) or three letters of recommendation (if employed);
(4) personal statement with curriculum vitae;
(5) financial statement or financial guarantee from your guarantor or your guardian;
(6) TOEFL score of 550 for non-native English speakers if the graduate program is in English or HSK (the Chinese proficiency test) score of Level 4 for liberal arts or level 3 for other majors (Regarding HSK, please visit http://www.hanban.edu.cn/en_hanban/index.php);
(7) Any published article/s.

Tuition

(1)Chinese language and culture program: RMB¥14,000 per year.
(2) Undergraduate Program
Liberal Arts, Economics, Business, Law: RMB¥15,000 per year
Science, Engineering, : RMB¥18,000 per year
Arts: RMB¥22,000 per year
(3) Master Degree Program: RMB¥22,000 per year
(4)Doctoral Degree Program: RMB¥24,000 per year.
(5)Non-degree students
The same as the equivalent degree courses.
