He
nan University of Science and Technology (HUST), located in the historically and culturally famous city of Luoyang, a city of modern industry was originally established in 1952. Ratified by the Ministry of Education in March, 2002, HUST is an amalgamation of the former Luoyang Institute of Technology and other two colleges. It is now one of the three key comprehensive universities of Henan province.
HUST now sets up 21 schools and one department of Physical Education, 22 teaching divisions in total, covering 9 major disciplines of engineering, natural science, medical science, agronomy, economics, management, law, literature and history, and possessing 66 undergraduate majors and 64 postgraduate programs and has been granted by the Ministry of Education to jointly recruit and train doctoral candidates with other colleges and universities. At present nearly 30 000 full-time post- and under-graduate students study in the university.
HUST has a faculty of 4 151, of whom 1 096 are professors, associate professors, senior engineers or technicians, 1 083 masters or doctors, 576 doctoral or postgraduates’ tutors and over 200 have been awarded the honor of “Experts of Millions of Talents Project”, “National Middle-aged and Young Experts with Outstanding Contributions”, “Experts Taking Special Government Allowance” or Academic Leads of Provincial or Ministerial Level”. In addition, the university shares seven academicians with other institutions.
HUST contains 15 provincial key branches
of learning, 10 branches with posts of provincially-supported professors, 5 provincial key labs and engineering centers and 3 labs for shared academicians. Several provincial and national academic associations are attached to the university. HUST has also undertaken a large number of research projects of state or provincial level, and a series of national key scientific and technological projects with great prospect for industrialization and high-quality technology. Besides, the university has gained a number of high-tech achievements in the “National 863 Projects” and “Projects of National Natural Science Fund”.
The university, with a construction area of 1.1 million square meters, covers an area of over 300 ha. It possesses a 2.16-million-volume library and the Network Management Center of Western Henan Province for China’s Education is located on the campus. Its “One-card Service on Campus and at Bank” has been awarded “Excellence Prize of Information-based Construction of China’s Education”. It has three affiliated hospitals with fixed assets of over several hundred million Yuan, of which the First Affiliated Hospital is a first-class provincial comprehensive hospital and one of the 100 best hospitals in China as well.
HUST aims to construct itself into a nationally advanced, provincially best comprehensive university of teaching-research type with feasible disciplinary formation and excellent systems for training, research and service and characteristic of outstanding engineering, brilliant features of science, medicine, agriculture and arts.
