Scholarships boost students abroad

BEIJING, May 23 (Xinhuanet) -- China's consul general in San Francisco, Gao Zhansheng (left), presents the Most Outstanding Doctorate award to Wang Hailiang, a Stanford University postgraduate in chemistry, on May 20. Wang was among 23 Chinese who came to the US to pursue advanced degrees backed by scholarships from China's central government of 10,000 U.S. dollars each. The program, established in 2003, encourages Chinese students abroad to use their education to contribute to their native country.
