Based on the consensus reached on the fourth Siberia Regional Chinese Language Teacher Workshop in last November, Confucius Institute at Novosibirsk State University of Technology (hereinafter referred to as CINSUT) officially declared the opening of Regional Chinese Language Teacher Association on May 29, 2012.

The Association is composed of over 30 Chinese language teachers from 15 institutes of higher learning, including Novosibirsk State University of Technology, Novosibirsk State University, Siberian Federal University, Novosibirsk State Normal University, Siberian University of International Relations, Siberian State University of Transportation and Communication, Novosibirsk State University of National Economy, Altai State University, Altai University of Economics and Law, Novokuznetsk University of Technology, Omsk State University, Tomsk State University, Buryatia State University and V.M. Shukshin Altai State Academy of Education.

The Opening Ceremony was presided over by Mr. Mou Xianming, Director of CINSUT and addressed by Cui E B, President for External Affairs of Novosibirsk State University of Technology. The President offered congratulations to the establishment of the Association and recognized its active and far-reaching role in promoting Chinese language teaching and Chinese culture promotion.

The Opening Ceremony was followed by a report entitled by Scientific Feature of "I-Ching" Projection delivered by Su Kuilan, a teacher of CINSUT which was highly responded. All exclaimed over the profoundness and richness of Chinese culture.

On May 30, the fifth workshop was held at the CI themed by the Application of Multi-media Technology in Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language. Wang Chanjuan, Director of CINSUT gave a report on the Pro and Cons of Multi-media Teaching in Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language. Ten teachers delivered reports from varying perspectives at the workshop, engendering many novel ideas and sparking hot debates among the teachers. While laying equal emphasis on both practice and theory, the workshop shed light on the advantages and disadvantages of multi-media teaching, addressed many issues existing in teaching and reached a common ground on giving fully play to the active role of multi-media teaching while integrating it with traditional teaching.

The setup of Regional Chinese Language Teacher Association has not only provided a rare opportunity for CINSUT to get to know the demands of local Chinese language teachers, but also served as a platform for participants to share experience in Chinese language teaching. More importantly, it will make best use of the advantages of various universities and colleges, in an effort to produce Chinese language teaching books and create a favorable atmosphere for Chinese language teaching and scientific research through a host of seminars, thereby, making CINSUT more influential in the local educational community.
