50 years of unremitting efforts and good governance and 50 years of heritage and glory signify a bountiful harvest of educational success. This September of 2012, Beijing Language and Culture University, known endearingly as "Little United Nations," will celebrate its 50th anniversary.    

Beijing Language and Culture University, also known as BLCU, was founded in 1962. It is the only university that operates directly under the Ministry of Education with teaching the disciplines of Chinese language and culture to overseas students as the main task. At the same time, enabling Chinese students to excel in linguistics, literature and related disciplines of education are also the university's  expertise. After five decades of growth and innovation, BLCU has developed into an internationally recognized multi-disciplinary university of distinct characteristics, highlighting language teaching and innovative research.    

As a pioneer in teaching Chinese as a foreign language, BLCU has made outstanding contributions to the promotion of Chinese culture across the world and friendship between China and the other countries. Since its founding, BLCU has trained130, 000 international students from over 170 countries and regions, who are now good at Chinese language and familiar with Chinese culture. BLCU has also graduated more than 10,000 qualified Chinese students who are currently active in foreign affairs, foreign management and education. Up to now more than 280 universities and educational institutions from 50 countries around the world have established cooperation and exchange relations with BLCU, and 16 Confucius Institutes are operating, forming a comprehensive, multi-disciplinary and highly productive international education platform.    

To culminate 50 years of successful establishment, BLCU will hold a grand anniversary celebration ceremony and a series of events in September of 2012. During this celebration, BLCU would like to extend its gratitude and pay tribute to the support and contributions of leaders at all levels, alumni and friends both at home and abroad. BLCU look forward to welcomingall the alumni and extended community to jointhe grand celebration event.
