Confucius Institute and Sinohydro visited Zambian Orphanage on Children's Day

On June 1, 2012, teachers from Confucius Institute at UNZA and some staff of Sinohydro Zambia Limited, twenty of them, visited the well-known Kabwata Orphanage in Zambia, spent a special Children's Day with the orphans and donated to them books, study articles and some items for daily use.

Present at the ceremony were Mr. Meng Jiajia from Chinese Embassy, the ex-first-lady Mr. Angela Miyanda, general Manager of Sinohydro Zambia Limited Mr. Li Quanshen, deputy general manager Mr. Liu Benjiang, director of Confucius Institute at UNZAProf. He Yi, chief of Xinhua News Agency Mr. Mu Dong and journalists from major local media.

Director of the orphanage Mrs. Angela Miyanda, the ex-first-lady, gave a warm welcome speech. She expressed her appreciation of people's attention, care and generous help they had received and the accomplishment in language and culture exchange that Confucius Institute at UNZA had made. Director He Yi said Confucius Institute at UNZA had received active support and help from various circles of society during the two years since it was established, achieved leap-forward development from ten to thousand students today, carried out teaching and cultural activities all over the country and received praises from both China and Zambia. She also expressed that Confucius Institute would continue to devote to the cultural exchange between China and Zambia, serve the two countries' economic and cultural construction better and promote the development of the long-term friendship between the two countries. Mr. Li Quanshen, general manager of Sinohydro Zambia Limited, said in his speech that it was an honor to cooperate with Confucius Institute at UNZA in this donation and he hoped to make more prolonged and extensive cooperation, perform more social responsibilities and contribute as much as possible to the process of Chinese culture dissemination to the world. The representative of the children expressed their appreciation of the generous donation. She was determined to learn good Chinese language and culture and become a good successor to the friendship and cooperation between China and Zambia.

After the donation ceremony, the teachers from Confucius Institute at UNZA began to teach the children Chinese Kongfu and play interactive games with them of word filling, kicking shuttlecock, rope skipping and chair seizing. The children were very fond of the games and had so much fun. They enjoyed a really meaningful Children's day.

The cooperation with Sinohydro is another important joint operation Confucius Institute at UNZA has made after its cooperation with ZTE Corporation Zambia, CNMCBank of China Zambia Limited. It will inevitably accelerate the further development of the friendship between China and Zambia. The children got a deeper understanding of Chinese culture through Chinese Kongfu and the interactive games the Chinese teachers performed.
