In July 2012, Northeast Forestry University (NEFU) will celebrate its 60th anniversary. These past sixty years have witnessed the robust development of NEFU and the great efforts of its faculty and staff in nourishing countless talented students. It is this grand anniversary celebration that holds our attention and attracts alumni both at home and abroad. We would like to extend our sincere thanks and heartfelt tribute to the leaders at all levels, alumni, and friends who have been offering assistance and support to the construction and development of Northeast Forestry University.

For generations, both leaders and staff of Northeast Forestry University have wholeheartedly guided the university with persistence and ambition, overcoming difficulties through broad opportunities and bold innovation, achieving a new leap forward in the development of the university. The history of Northeast Forestry University is traced to Northeast Forestry College, founded in 1952, which is the predecessor of NEFU. It developed rapidly by being affiliated with the former Ministry of Forestry, which has been reformed into the current State Forestry Administration. Its formal name was changed to Northeast Forestry University in 1985, aiming to reflect its improving educational standards. As part of the most recent reforms of the Chinese educational system, NEFU has been directly supervised by the Ministry of Education of the State Council since 2000 and was listed as one of the leading universities in the "211 project" in 2005. It was given a mark of "Excellence" during the undergraduate teaching level evaluation conducted by the Ministry of Education. Its number of national key disciplines led all the other colleges in forestry filed in 2007, and it became one of the key universities in the project of National superiority discipline innovation platform. With more than 30,000 students currently studying and more than 90,000 graduates, NEFU earns its good name from its competent graduates, advanced scientific research platforms with national key laboratories, national engineering laboratories as well as national scientific observation and research stations in the field, led by outstanding scholars and teaching staff.

The 60th Anniversary is an important milestone in the developing history of Northeast Forestry University. It is hereby announced that Northeast Forestry University will hold a celebration event on July 8th, 2012, based on the principles of "Solemnness, Heartiness, Frugality and Efficiency". We have started our preparations for the 60th anniversary celebration, including the collection of precious archives, historical pictures, documentation, and alumni information and would like to invite our alumni both at home and abroad to make their own contributions and make suggestions for the university development. On the occasion of the 60th Anniversary, we sincerely look forward to your presence at the university for this great event!
