In China, students who want to further their studies in senior middle school after junior middle school should take the entrance examination for secondary school.

It is considered a very hard examination with an admission ratio of less than 60%. That's even less than the university entrance examination.

The examination is set by local education departments, with subjects that include Chinese, foreign language, mathematics, physics and chemistry. It usually starts in June every year.

Generally, students who expect to further their study in senior middle school should have very good marks on this exam. A good mark on this exam also makes further study possible in colleges and increases the chances of a decent job in the future.
