Dalian Jiaotong University, located in a charming costal city Dalian, was founded in 1956. It was formerly administrative by the ministry of Railway and in February 2000, it was put under the administration of Liaoning Provincial Government following the policy that universities and colleges are co-governed by the joint effort of the central and the local government with the latter being the main administrative body. In May 2004, it was renamed as Dalian Jiaotong University—the unique university with its railway transportation as main features in Northeast part of China. With 50years’ development, it has turned itself to be a higher academic institution with strong teaching and research capabilities.

Today, Dalian Jiaotong University has developed into 16 teaching sections and it has 38 undergraduate programs, 2 doctorate programs, and 3 first-class subjects with master’s degree, 19 master-degree programs, 7 master-of-engineering programs and 2 mater-of-teacher programs. Besides, DJTU also has 3 key provincial-level subjects, 2 key provincial-level laboratories and 1 key provincial research center. Currently, DJTU’s total enrollment of full-time students amounts to 10879. There are 9915 undergraduates, 557 postgraduates, 50 candidates for doctor’s degree, 357students of adult education and 2000 students of correspondence courses.

Since mid-1990s, DJTU began its enrollment of overseas students and with the university’s rapid development, the amount of foreign students increases year by year. The institute provides Chinese intensive reading, reading comprehension, oral Chinese, listening comprehension, composition-writing, viewing and listening and fast Chinese achiever programs. The teaching staff takes full-time Chinese teachers as main body and provides small-scale classes (less than 6students). We can accommodate various students with diverse basements and let them be suitable for different classes. Meanwhile, the institute also conducts various Chinese-style activities such as Chinese calligraphy, Taiji Boxing, Chinese cuisine, Chinese culture, folklore instruments, Chinese profile and so on. Furthermore, for each semester the institute will arrange a language-practice program, visiting Chinese places of historical interest, taking tours of famous mountains and rivers in order to learn more Chinese culture and folklore occasions. The overseas students’ office hold “strict requirement and friendly help as its guide to provide the considerate services for overseas students.
