School Introduction With the approval of the Beijing Municipal Education Commission, the establishment of BCCSC was announced in the Great Hall of the People on March 26, 1997, and this special day was set as the school’s founding anniversary. Jointly operated by Chinese and Canadian education groups, Beijing Concord College of Sino-Canada has The Experimental Middle School attached to Beijing Normal University as the Chinese division and the two Canadian sections are the New Brunswick Education Department and AKD International Incorporation as its Canadian partners.. Since its establishment 14 years ago, the school has seen 11 batches of graduates, 98% of whom have been enrolled by universities at home or abroad and 83% of whom have been awarded scholarships. The current 12th batch of graduates will leave school this summer. Now the school has more than 1,100 students studying in 36 classes at 3 grades.
Beijing Concord College is an rich fruit of education co-operation between China and Canada. By absorbing and merging the best of Eastern and Western cultures and education, the school has formed its unique curriculum system, with Canadian courses integrated into Chinese High School courses. Moreover, the school promotes this co-operation between China and Canada, For many years, the School has been awarded as a model of international co-operation by both Chinese and Canadian governments. In the past 14 years, the school has received great support and care from both governments; top-officials of both have met its staff and students on several occasions. In July 2003, the National Education Department of China appointed BCCSC as the only contact school for the new curricula reform, thus it now takes the leading position in implementing the new curriculum standards. BCCSC students take integrated Chinese and English curricula and receive double diplomas upon graduation, when they have implemented their three-year high school studies of credit system. At the same time, BCCSC provides AP courses to advanced students. Qualified scores or results in AP courses are highly acknowledged in enrolling into university and college all over the world, and AP scores can be converted into university/college credits once the student gets enrolled. More than one choices are open to BCCSC graduates; they can either apply for home universities or universities abroad.
Curriculum Design BCCSC takes Wisdom, Virtue, Perseverance, and Aspiration as its admonition. The school adopts scientific management and teaching methods called META (Media, Education, Technology, and Arts), which aims at developing the student’s comprehensive ability to meet the challenge of the 21st century. To strengthen the student’s proficiency in English, the teachers from Canada take charge of courses such as English language (reading, writing, listening and speaking), social studies and information technology. All courses offered by Canadian instructors are taught in English to make sure that the student acquires an English proficiency that will enable them to study and live abroad. To enhance the student’s English proficiency, BCCSC has equipped an advanced multimedia teaching devise, providing the best and an ideal atmosphere to learn English with native English speakers through modern teaching facilities. The amount of time that the student spends on English in BCCSC is three times as much as that the students do in the public schools in China. Upon completion, the student will meet the Canadian standard for university/college in English proficiency, and computer knowledge. In order to develop the student’s multi-ability, BCCSC offers more than 40 elective courses, including French, studio work, English drama, Chinese literature, arts and P. E. To meet the students’ need to develop their personal traits , the school keeps sending students to take part in all kinds of contests both at home and abroad, such as the Contest of Computer Works, the English Contest in China, International Contests in Mathematics, etc. In all the contests, the students of BCCSC have done wonderful job with many first places in international math contests and other prizes as well. (For further information, please visit the website: www.ccsc.com.cn.) Bilingual Teaching BCCSC attaches great importance to English language teaching and other subjects taught in English. In order to meet the needs of society and its own development, the school has adopted bilingual teaching in non-English subjects ,especially in science courses such as mathematics, physics, chemistry and geography , to get the students familiar with special English technology terms and versions used in science courses. The adoption of the bilingual teaching in science course has greatly promoted and enriched our curricula, and has helped form the special curricula of BCCSC. AP ( Advanced Placement) Program AP Program is a Global Program and an International Credential, which bridges high schools and universities by allowing students to do university level work for university credits while the students are still studying in high schools. BCCSC has been authorized as an AP test site by CollegeBoard (America) with AP classes at all 3 grades. Smart Board assisted instruction BCCSC has installed the most advanced interactive electronic Smart Board in its classrooms. It has changed the teaching model, allowing the students to play an active role in the classroom, making teaching more vivid, exciting and efficient.
